Sitting is the New Smoking

Sitting is the New Smoking

You’ve probably heard the above quote recently. Studies now show that a sedentary life is as harmful as cigarette smoke. But many of you have ‘desk jobs’ where sitting is the norm. So, how can you take control of your posture and your health when your profession requires you to sit?

Winter doesn’t have to mean getting sick

Winter doesn’t have to mean getting sick

Did you know that chiropractic care was first linked to improved immunity more than 100 years ago, after the deadly flu epidemic? Chiropractic medicine was first developed by a Dr. D.D. Palmer of Davenport, Iowa when, in 1895, he noticed that his janitor was stooped and discovered one of the man’s vertebrae was out of place. The janitor, who was deaf, explained to the doctor that years earlier, he had moved the wrong way and lost his hearing as a result. Through a simple spinal adjustment, Dr. Palmer was able to move the vertebrae back into place and within 24 hours, the janitor reported that his hearing was back!

Teens and Posture:

All of this time on our phones and tablets is leading many, particularly in America, into a more sedentary lifestyle. Not only are we sitting more, we’re often in a hunched position which can cause strain to the neck and spine. You may even notice changes in your neck alignment, muscle strain around the neck and other spinal differences. Not to mention, changes in your vision caused by excessive screen time.

Watersports

Watersports

Summertime means lots of outdoor time for folks around the Black Hills. We spend many long winter months in cold and snow so when summer arrives, we want to spend as much time as possible in the sun. There’s nothing better on a hot day than splashing in the cool waters of Lake Pactola or Angostura, or skipping along by Rapid Creek. People who live in the Black Hills are also known for being very active, particularly during our sunny season and that includes our love for watersports. Everybody’s looking for a way to cool down during the hottest days of summer and luckily, we have plenty of lakes, streams and waterways to beat the heat.

Springtime in Custer State Park

Spring has finally sprung in the beautiful Black Hills and we can’t wait to get outside for activity and recreation! Custer State Park is always a great place to spend time during the spring but after the recent Legion Lake fire, many wonder how that will impact our community’s ability to enjoy CSP.
