Motorcycle Season in the Black Hills

Motorcycle Season in the Black Hills

Summer may be ending, but the weather is still perfect for motorcycle riding. Fall is an excellent time to explore the Black Hills on your bike. The tourists have (mostly) left and it’s still warm outside.

Some of the best fall bike runs in the Black Hills include Needles Highway, Vanocker Canyon, Spearfish Canyon and Iron Mountain Road. You can also enjoy a lengthier ride out to Devil’s Tower or through the Badlands. Traffic slows down during the fall allowing for a more leisurely ride through our beautiful attractions. The prairie grasses are long and soon, the leaves will begin their color changes. We’ve been blessed these past several years with a respite from the pine beetle infestation, so the ponderosa pines of the Black Hills are dark evergreen as they should be.

Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries

This month, we’re going to delve into the most common injuries that we see. We’re beginning with Sports-related injuries.

Sports are excellent ways for people of all ages to maintain good health and weight, and to keep active. Sports are also great practices for our children to learn conflict resolution and develop the eye-hand coordination that is so instrumental to our coordination.

Watersports

Watersports

Summertime means lots of outdoor time for folks around the Black Hills. We spend many long winter months in cold and snow so when summer arrives, we want to spend as much time as possible in the sun. There’s nothing better on a hot day than splashing in the cool waters of Lake Pactola or Angostura, or skipping along by Rapid Creek. People who live in the Black Hills are also known for being very active, particularly during our sunny season and that includes our love for watersports. Everybody’s looking for a way to cool down during the hottest days of summer and luckily, we have plenty of lakes, streams and waterways to beat the heat.

Being a Responsible Hiker

We were prepared to release our blog about hiking Buzzard’s Roost when word came out about the recent vandalism in Custer State Park. Although all details are not known at this time, it appears that two women sawed Poet’s Table in half, carrying it (along with all the chairs and cabinet) out of the park.

Springtime in Custer State Park

Springtime in Custer State Park

Spring has finally sprung in the beautiful Black Hills and we can’t wait to get outside for activity and recreation! Custer State Park is always a great place to spend time during the spring but after the recent Legion Lake fire, many wonder how that will impact our community’s ability to enjoy CSP.

Exploring the Black Hills: Caving in Winter

Exploring the Black Hills: Caving in Winter

Want a new activity that the whole family can enjoy, even when it’s cold outside? Did you know that the Black Hills have several landmark cave systems? Caves are excellent places to explore any time of the year but during the winter caves are not plunged into cold like the rest of the outdoors!
