Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic services are used most often to treat common musculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Through their whole-person, patient-centered approach, doctors of chiropractic (DCs) elevate the health and wellness of their communities by helping people of all ages live more fully and actively.
Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine. Not only does it support your 10-12 pound head, maintain a forward curve and permit a variety of movements, it allows the free flow of nerve impulses to your entire body. Other than discomfort and annoyance, chronic neck pain is a sign something is wrong.
There are a variety of causes of neck pain- watching your phone, using your computer, nursing and looking down at your precious baby or falling asleep in an odd position. When this pain doesn’t resolve itself on its own in a short period of time you know it is time to make an appointment with your chiropractor.
The most common cause of neck pain is dysfunctional movements resulting is restrictions or improper movement of your vertebrae. These are seen in causes of reverse cervical curve (Text Neck), whiplash and joint instability. Doctors of chiropractic are experts in diagnosing and finding the causes of dysfunction in your neck and restoring proper movement and decreasing pain.
Experts estimate that up to 80% of the population will experience back pain at some time in their lives.
The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. While sports injuries or accidents can cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements—for example, picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from disease of the internal organs, such as kidney stones, kidney infections, blood clots or bone loss.
With today’s growing emphasis on quality care, clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness, spinal manipulation is receiving increased attention. The epidemic of prescription opioid overuse and abuse has also led to wider acknowledgment of the benefits of non-drug approaches to pain.
Spinal manipulation is a safe and effective non-drug spine pain treatment. It reduces pain (decreasing the need for medication in many cases), rapidly advances physical therapy, and requires very few passive forms of treatment, such as bed rest.
Did you know that 9/10 Americans suffer from headaches? Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea. Research shows that spinal manipulation – one of the primary treatments provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.
Chiropractors can help with a variety of conditions while pregnant. A recent study found that more than 75% of pregnant women experience pregnancy related low back and/or pelvic pain. Chiropractic is a safe, effective and drug-free way to manage these and other musculoskeletal complaints during pregnancy.
The most common symptoms we treat related to pregnancy are low back pain, sciatica nerve pain, sacroiliac pain, pubic symphysis pain and round ligament pain.
Our very own Dr. Becky is also Webster certified. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.
