STARTING SOMETHING NEW: FITNESS GOALS

Approximately 42% of you will set a New Year’s resolution. Most of those resolutions involve weight loss and increased activity. The gyms fill up every January, offering great promotions for new members. But most people will give up on their fitness resolutions by February! Only about 37% of people in their 20s and 30s will keep up their goals, but just 16% of those over the age of 50 will
continue.

One way to game the system and increase the odds of keeping with your 2018 fitness goals is to prepay for your gym sessions. You’re more likely to show up if you’ve invested that cost.

You could also add a tracking platform, like Fitbit or Garmin, to give you some additional accountability and a measuring system to track your progress. Or, you could add a social element – involving others in your fitness goals – as a great way to increase the likelihood of continuing your new fitness habit in the New Year.

Humans are social animals – the more we interact with others, the more likely we are to
modify our behavior. When you enlist the help of others, you can make a stronger
commitment to fulfilling your fitness goals. Rushmore Family Chiropractic wanted to
acknowledge the work of a group of individuals who are taking their social fitness goals to a new level:

The Weekly Walking Club here in Rapid City was started by Diane Knutson, owner of Koko Fit Club on Sheridan Lake Road. Diane is a busy working wife and mom who understands how important it is that we get regular exercise that feels right for our lifestyles. We asked Diane about the Weekly Walking Club: “I wanted to create a welcoming, no cost way, no commitment, supportive, consistent means to engage individuals interested in making their health a priority. I recently kicked it off and will grow it for 2018.”

So, if you’re looking to kick-start your fitness goals this New Year’s and you want the accountability of others encouraging you, contact Koko Fitclub at 605.719.3359! Maybe we’ll join you for the weekly walk!

Remember: when you begin any new physical activity, you want to make sure to check in first with your physician and chiropractor. Discussing your plans with your medical care practitioners will help you create the right plan for your needs and for your family’s. See your doctor or chiropractor to start a baseline to measure your improvements.

And if, at any point in your new fitness routine, you begin to notice some aches and pains – come see us at Rushmore Family Chiropractic. Your mental commitment and focus is the
single most important part of achieving your goals, but it’s hard to do that if you hurt yourself. Don’t wait: Prolonging a diagnosis can only derail your fitness activity and goals.

We encourage each of you to set reasonable resolutions for your New Year and we are
happy to help you develop a new fitness or wellness routine!
