ADULT ABDOMINAL DISTRESS

In an earlier blog we wrote about the use of Chiropractic Care for infants suffering from the pain of Colic and Reflux. Well, adults may not get Colic (can you just imagine?) but did you know that chiropractic care can also treat your adult gastrointestinal distress?

Adults can suffer from a host of gastrointestinal problems including:

  • Reflux and heartburn

  • Peptic ulcers

  • Gallstones

  • Lactose Intolerance

  • Diverticulitis

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

  • Celiac Disease (gluten allergy)

  • Constipation

  • Crohn’s Disease

Rushmore Family Chiropractic knows how critical our patient’s “whole body” health is. We strive to work with our patients to treat not just the pain in their spine but a wide variety of ailments and complaints. Your spine connects to your entire central nervous system, which in turn connects to literally every cell of your being. This has a significant impact upon your immune responses and particularly, your gastrointestinal system.

When your spine is properly aligned, your central nervous system is able to communicate with your entire body and directs each organ to do its job effectively. This allows your body, including the digestive functions, to work properly. Many patients will report a significant improvement of their stomach problems after a series of non-invasive and gentle chiropractic adjustments.

A healthy gut starts with a healthy diet and nutrition, of course. We recommend eating a balanced diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean and healthy meats/fish. You also need to stay hydrated – at least 32 ounces of fresh water each day (a reminder that caffeine and alcohol dehydrate the body so you must consume extra water when you enjoy either of those). You need cardio-vascular exercise each day. And you need sleep – 8 hours of restful, uninterrupted sleep.

But there is more you can do beyond those 4 building blocks of good health and well-being. Check in with your doctors, your dentists and other health practitioners at least annually. De-stress whenever possible and take the time for activities that make you feel good, happy. Stress can only exacerbate any existing problems in your gut that you may have.

One way to help with abdominal distress is through chiropractic care. Another great way to help your gut is through the use of Essential Oils. Rushmore Family Chiropractic recommends “Digize Vitality” from Young Living Oils. This propriety blend includes tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise and patchouli oils. This is a great mealtime companion and addition to aid in your wellness regimen and helps your tummy (take 2 drops orally each day).

If you have been bothered with abdominal problems recently, start with a chiropractic consultation. Dr. Kauffman or Dr. Beilstein will be able to assess your spinal position along with how it may be impacting your central nervous system. From there, they will adjust your spine as necessary to get it back into alignment, and then make any other recommendations (including essential oils like Digize) to help you feel much better!
